Also, have you tried using a little craft iron to press the applique BEFORE the satin stitch and AFTER youve trimmed? I draw out what Im going to use on the paper side, iron it on my fabric, cut my design (this helps save on wasting too much of the heat n bond) and then when you flip it to be ironed on its ready to go. It gives it a little extra support on top. So I suggest bringing yours in to see if they can take it apart. Has any one tried this??? It does not gum up the needle! Yes, I've had that happen too, sometimes it's because my iron is too hot, Hi Lenora- anytime I applique, I have always used a machine satin, In my (limited) experience with heat n bond, it tends not to stick when the iron has, I tried it at all different temperatures and still had no luck.
